Alcoa man dead after falling off the top of a moving van
Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong said a 37-year-old Alcoa man died as the result of injuries sustained after falling off the top of a moving van Sunday night.
David Harold Chandler, Jr., 37, of Cedar Street, Alcoa, was pronounced dead at University of Tennessee Medical Center this morning.
Chandler was standing on top of a moving 2002 Toyota Sienna van traveling southeast on Cloyds Church Road at around 9:30 last night when he fell off the vehicle onto the left side of the roadway as the vehicle rounded a right curve. Chandler then slid about 29 feet before coming to a rest in the middle of the roadway. He was taken by personal vehicle to Blount Memorial Hospital, and was then transferred to the University of Tennessee Medical Center by Life Star.
The driver of the vehicle, Patrick Richard Borden, 20, of Marble Hill Road, Friendsville, was charged with reckless endangerment. He is being held in the Blount County Detention Facility on a $1,500 bond, and is also being held without bond on two charges of violation of probation.
