Maryville man critical following stabbing; one in custody
Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong said one man is in critical condition after being stabbed multiple times Friday night, and another man is in custody.
The victim, Reinaldo Velasquez, 27, of Pennsylvania Avenue, Maryville, is in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Sheriff's deputies responded to a residence on Pennsylvania Avenue at around 9:30 Friday night to the call of a stabbing. When deputies arrived they found Velasquez with multiple stab wounds to his chest. He was taken by Rural/Metro Ambulance Service to U.T. Medical Center. The suspect fled on foot prior to the deputy's arrival, but was apprehended by a deputy a short time later about 200 yards from the scene of the stabbing. The victim told deputies he and Harrell were talking when an argument ensued, followed by a physical altercation, and Harrell stabbed Velasquez. Velasquez went to a neighboring residence to seek help.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
