Knoxville man charged with attempted murder

Blount County, Tennessee – Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong announced that a Knoxville man is in custody after shooting and injuring a Maryville man Thursday evening.

The victim, 39, was taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment to his injuries and released Saturday.

Orlando Kartize Witherow, 44, of Wilson Avenue, Knoxville, is in custody and charged with the following:

  • Attempted murder
  • Reckless endangerment
  • Felon in possession of a firearm
  • Domestic assault
  • Driving on a suspended driver’s license

Witherow is being in the Blount County Correctional Facility pending a hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court. Bond amounts and the court date have not yet been set.

Deputies responded to a residence on Garrett Lane in response to the call of a shooting Thursday evening at 7:25 p.m. When deputies arrived, they found a 39-year-old man with several gunshot wounds to his legs.  Deputies learned that the shooting likely stemmed from a domestic assault on a female victim who was present at the time. During the investigation, investigators identified Witherow as the shooter. Friday evening, deputies with the U.S. Marshals Smokey Mountain Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Witherow at a location near Cherry Street in Knoxville.

Witherow is currently serving federal probation for a prior drug charge.

Sheriff’s investigators are continuing their investigation into the incident.
