Man arrested on drug charges following search warrant

Blount County, Tennessee – Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong said investigators with the Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force, along with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, executed a search warrant at 258 Seals Crossing Way, Maryville, that resulted in the arrest of one person.

Jamel Daion Mathis, 27, of Seals Crossing Way, Maryville, is charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule VI (marijuana) for resale
  • Maintaining a Dwelling where drugs are used or sold
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony

Mathis is being held in the Blount County Correctional Facility on bonds totaling $15,000 pending a hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court at 9 am July 23, 2025.

This short-term investigation into Mathis began following citizen complaints to the Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force that Mathis was distributing marijuana and THC products to juveniles and others. During the search warrant, investigators seized 966.5 grams (more than 2 pounds) of marijuana, 210 mg of THC edibles, 32 grams of THC vapes, 163.8 grams of THC liquid, one firearm, $2,310 in U.S. currency, and drug paraphernalia.

The Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force remains committed to working to keep illicit drugs out of Blount County by thoroughly investigating all narcotic and other illicit drug-related complaints. The Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force is comprised of deputies and officers with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, Alcoa Police Department, and Maryville Police Department.
