November 3, 2025

Blount County, Tennessee – Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong said a 33-year-old Maryville man is in custody following a pursuit late Saturday night.

Jamie Scott Banks, 33, Aracian Lane, Maryville, is charged with the following:

  • DUI
  • Evading arrest
  • Resisting arrest
  • Reckless endangerment with a weapon x 2
  • Failure to yield to an emergency vehicle x 5
  • Aggravated assault against a first responder x 2

Shortly before midnight Saturday, the Maryville Police Department initiated a pursuit on a Chevy Colorado pick-up truck after he drove onto a basketball court at Atchley Apartments, almost striking a citizen and then drove away in a reckless manner. The driver fled out of the city limits at which time Maryville ended their pursuit and Sheriff’s Office units took over. The driver, later identified as Jamie Banks,  continued to drive erratically, swerving in an attempt to hit oncoming traffic, including Sheriff’s Office cruisers. Banks continued south on U.S. 411 South, running red lights and continuing to flee. Banks turned onto Clover Hill Road and continued onto Morganton Road. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle using spike strips, but Banks evaded them and drove into a yard on Mossy Grove Lane, driving through multiple other yards until he struck a tree where deputies surrounded his vehicle and gave orders for him to get out of the vehicle. Banks continued to resist and rammed two Sheriff’s cruisers. He continued to resist for several minutes until he finally gave up when he saw a Sheriff’s K-9. Banks admitted to deputies that he had relapsed on drugs.

Banks is being held in the Blount County Correctional Facility on bonds totaling $33,000 pending a hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court at 9 a.m. November 7, 2025.
